Check Your Ego At The Door
I'm a stickler when it comes to form. It really bothers me when I see someone load up too much weight and attempt to move it incorrectly. If you have to "put your body into it" to move a weight, you're using too much weight! I recently saw a guy turn a lat pulldown into a row. He was leaning back to pull down the weight and raising himself off of the bench as he was returning to the start. Sure, he's telling himself, "I can do 150 lbs on the lat pulldown" but he's doing it all wrong. I don't know about you, but I'd rather be safe than sorry. The idea is to build muscle, not to get injured. I tell my clients, "the weight will come". Focus on proper form. Don't "put your back into it" to do a bicep curl. Use your body as a stabilizer (it will also help in strengthening your core). You're not competing with the guy next to you. Know your limitations. Check your ego at the door. Good things come to those who "weight".

I'm Gonna Get Older But I'm Not Gonna Get Old
When prospective clients come to see me, the first thing I ask them is "Why are you here"? The answers I hear are "lose weight","get in shape". After talking about goals, diet, lifestyle and exercise, the answer translates to "I want to look and feel better."
I know that as a 50 something,I want to look good and feel good. And I know, looking down the pike, it's a lot of work. It's going to take a lot of changes.Small steps at a time.
It starts with accepting who you are, your capabilities, your goals and your determination to reach those goals. You know it will not happen overnight..it will take months, years...once you get going and see results, you'll want to maintain them. Why? Because you look better, you feel better about yourself, more confident. People notice something different about you. they can't put their finger on it but there's something about you...
You wanna know what it is? It's you...only better. You're on an exercise regimen, you've modified your diet, eating healthier, you're sleeping better, slowing down on the cyber social obligations like Facebook, the clothes are fitting nicer, you're getting stronger, looking good and above all....feeling happy.
We're all going to get older. Can't dispute that. It's inevitable. But I'm going to do my best not to get old. I will exercise on a regular basis. I will nourish my system with good, wholesome food and will cook at least twice a day. I will challenge my mind to make it more knowledgeable, my body to make it strong and limber, my well being healthy.
